Membership in Emerging National Health Code is Affordable, Helps Shape Future Regulations

Some folks have complained about certain aspects of swimming pool health codes, and you’ll hear things like, “Why do they want us to do this?” or “Why can’t we just do that?”

Well, Florida is blessed to have one of the best health codes in the US, but there is a new emerging “national-based” code that was put in place with the help of many industry people. The Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) was written as a collaborative multi-year effort by a large group of industry leaders and DOH  officials. The effort was spearheaded by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and was the first national peer written and peer reviewed code.

It also continues to evolve through a conscientious effort to change and adapt as technology and the aquatic industry changes.  To that end, it goes through a revision process every 3 years that involves regular folks like you and us. We’re currently working off the 2018 (3rd Edition) of the code, and the next revision is slated for late 2020.

Finally, it has started to get adopted, in part or whole by many around the US and abroad.  Currently at least 24 states/counties/agencies are in the process of adoption. At worst, the MAHC has established itself as a great “best practice” guideline for end users, contractors, owners, health departments, and even lawyers.

Now you can be a part of this. Through a low cost membership in the Council for Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC), you can help recommend new language, help write new code, serve on committees, and vote on changes to be made.
